Dr. Bhavana Radhakrishnan
Bhavana Radhakrishnan is one of the well-known playback singers from Kerala, born on 28 July 1961 in Palakkad. She earned a doctorate in music from the University of Kerala and is especially recognized for her devotional songs. Over the years, she has performed in more than 300 stage shows across Kerala. Alongside her singing career, she also contributed to music education as a Professor of Carnatic Music at Sree Narayan College, Kollam, where she mentored many aspiring musicians.
She began her playback singing journey in 1991 with the song “Thankavilakanamma,” performed alongside M.G. Sreekumar, Baby Kavitha, and Master Jayaram. Wider recognition came through the film Kaliyattam, directed by Jayaraaj, with music composed by Kaithapram and Rajamani. The film received several prestigious honors, including National Awards for Best Actor and Best Director, as well as Kerala State and Filmfare awards. Bhavana herself was honored with the Kerala State Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her contribution to the film.
In 1998, she sang “Manassilenthe” with Sindhu for the successful film Kattathoru Penpoovu, directed by Mohan Kuplari. The same year, she performed the solo track “Nanda Kumaaranu” in Chitrashalabham, a film directed by K.B. Madu with music by Rajamani, Perumbavoor G., and Raveendranath. She later recorded “Oru Neela Megham” for the film Varavaay in 2000.
Continuing her musical journey, Bhavana also lent her voice to a song in the 2010 Alexander the Great starring Mohanlal, with music composed by M. G. Sreekumar.
